In second grade, I was writing plays and forcing the poor neighbor kids to act them out. (With me as director, of course.) Eventually family and career took a front seat, and I put my pencil down for most of twenty years. When I started writing again, I realized I was interested in two things… Historical fiction and teenagers. (Not THAT way-ew!) Historical fiction because I love the drama, color, and the majesty of those bygone eras. And YA for the fluidity of teenagers. Teens are close enough to adult to have very serious problems. Yet, they’re also young enough to change in the most fundamental ways. Plus…(and I love this part)…you can just beat the crap out of a teenager. You can throw them down a flight of stairs, shoot them with arrows, chunk them off a cliff into raging, icy rivers, and the little dudes just. keep. going. Try doing that to a forty-something. {Uh, hi…broken hip, anyone?}
I’m member of the SCBWI. In addition, I’m a member of–and have done author interviews for–the Historical Novel Society. I’m also the author of the popular CBS affiliate-fansite BigBigBrother.com .
Best of all, I’m a member of the most sensational and thriving critique group on the planet! The SFWG Writing Group! (Don’t ask what it means, it’s a secret…shhh)
Out of our ten members–in this past year alone–three of our five agented members received incredible book deals–the uber-talented Susan Spann and the lovely and wonderful Marci Jefferson. Two of the five SFWG’s unagented writers were offered representation by some of the best agents around. (One of those–my mentor Heather Webb–also got that third, immediate book deal-woot!)
Because of all I’ve learned from these remarkable women, and the love and support of my amazing husband and family, I’m thrilled to announce that on May 2, 2013, I officially signed with the phenomenal Mollie Glick of Foundry Literary and Media.
I can’t wait to begin the next stage of this crazy journey!!
Please contact me on Twitter or Facebook, I’d love to hear from you!
